Hard Steering until I rev the car.
Hi all,
I am really stuck and short of cash to start replacing everything so any help would be great. I have a 2002 Focus 1.8 TDCI Duratorq that has developed a serious steering problem. We was parking and suddenly the steering became difficult to turn. At low revs there is virtually no assistance, but when you rev the power assistance comes back. I have replaced the Power Steering Pump with a used one from a scrap car and checked the belt, which is fine. The fluid has also been renewed. All this as made no difference to the steering. Does anybody have any ideas what I should look at next? |

The pump was my first guess until I read through the end of your post. The only thing left is your steering rack. Perhaps an internal seal has failed and most of the fluid is bypassing, offering no assistance at low PSI.

Thanks for the speedy reply! I will try a rack on it and be sure to come back and let you know if it fixed it. Somebody said something about a solenoid on the steering?
