favorite military aircraft
lets hear some opinions on your favorite combat aircraft...its always been a tossup for me between the F-4 phantomII or the incredibly pimp'n B-1 lancer/bomber..a supersonic bomber...now thats cool...anyway, discuss....

om a fan of the P-38 lightning from WWII, the b-1 would be awesome if i didnt see them everyday and have to be woken up by them in the middle of the night. Guess thats what i get for living by Dyess AFB

Have to agree with the P-38, or forked tail devil as the Germans called it. Two P-51 Mustang engines in a slightly heavier fuelage - what a potent combination! A group transferring bases was jumped by some German aircraft while flairing for the landing, dropped the external tanks, raised the gear, firewalled the throttles and engaged, downing some of the enemy, driving the rest off and then landed with no loss of P-38s. For jets, it would be the F-4 Phantom, the aircraft of the Great Santini, plus I have some awesome pictures of the F-4's out accelerating the catapaults on the USS America.

It is a toss up for me when it comes to jets between the F-16 and the F-18, always have liked them both. Now if you talk Rotary wing then the UH-60 that has got to be one of the most versatile helicopters out there, and a fun ass ride.

Definitely the Warthog for me. It's the jet that originally inspired me to join the AF, and the one aircraft I always wanted to fly. Unfortunately, I didn't get picked up for a pilot slot, so that dream was shot to hell pretty quick. I still love that plane though, the damn thing is a flying tank
 And that GAU -8/A Avenger is one hell of a gun:

I'm glad there's more F4 enthusiasts. It's definitely my favorite. My dad worked on them while stationed at Kunsan Airbase during Vietnam. This is one of the photos he took.
 Next year I'm going to try and get my dad and I to PhanCon.
