Ignition cylinder Thanks

Dodged the IC lockup bullet yesterday thanks to all the faq help here.
Long time member but don't post much since I usually find answers quickly.

Tapping the key got it to turn, then was able to pull cylinder! Dreaded having to drill it out so feel pretty lucky. Again, thanks for the how-to.
Now the rant:
Live in NW Wis so know I'm in the sticks--but geez! Called THE three locksmiths 'round here: EVERY ONE OF THEM said I had to go to dealer and for the cylinder have new key reprogrammed. Tried to explain I just needed a cylinder keyed to my PATS key. NO dice. Have to have dealer reprogram key.
So I ordered $32.24 keyed strattec from "actionkeys" on ebay. Have to wait a couple days for it but OK. Woulda paid $60 here to pick up quicker but wasn't an option. Ranted enuf...

So if needed, can I tape the pats key to the ring and turn the start switch with a screw driver??

If you're going to use that method, just remove the chip from the key. There's a small access panel at the top of the key. Just pry it open with a small screwdriver and take it out. This way, you can still use your key. But, you'll have to find the sweet spot for the chip. I tried it and sometimes it worked, and sometimes it didn't.

Any locksmith who knows what they are doing should be able to swap out your ignition cylinder.

maybe you can ask one of the locksmiths to take a look instead of just saying no over the phone? I would try that, if possible.

I had mine done several years ago by a locksmith, took him 30 mins, and he had to drill out the old one.
