Question need your thoughts on my winter tire selection

Hey guys, well winter is all most around the corner and I have the task of trying to figure out which tires I want/need. Last years winter driving was interesting... At times with the stock conti pros. I have two tires in mind General Altimax Arctic, and Continental Extreme Winter Contact. Basically studdable vs non studdable. Here in Alberta we get Chinooks which can really throw a mix into things when talking about winter driving conditions. We can go from blizzard to +5°c within 12 hours back to freezing. Wondering if any of you might have the where with all to give me some advice on the tires I have for selection. Or possibly different tires that you have had good/bad experiences with.

Thanx in advance.

I have had great luck with nokians and I highly recomend them. The weather isn't to different here in Saskatchewan.

The set I put on my last car have lasted 5 winters and one summer 90,000+ km and are more than half tread remaining.

I have used the Hankook winter I-Pike tires. They are pretty much the same tread pattern as the General tires. They were amazing. For me it came down to getting the most tire in my budget. I don't know what the high dollar tires are like... maybe they are worth the extra money? Read the test results for the different tires on Tire Rack - it was very helpful to me.

Okay, my decisions are now between the General altimax arctics, and the nokian hakkapellita 8. Both have very very similar tread pattern and I'm sold on both, defts post of 90k and still half tread left have me leaning towards the nokians.

Waiting for my brother to give me the price of each. Sweet part is, I am getting them at cost! Nice...

I would just go with whichever is cheapest, unless they're really close in price.

Any good snow tire will last a while if you only use them when it's properly cold out, and if it's mostly on snow.

See that's the thing! I live in a city, and roads and probably half clear and half snow covered.
