To Miata or not to Miata?

That is the question. I love my ST to death but it is rusted to the point that repairing it would cost more than the car is actually worth. Because of that I decided that I would not mod the car like I wanted to when I bought it. I just isn't worth it. This really sucked but it makes the most sense financially. I'm also getting tired of front wheel drive and I really want to go rwd. I thought I was stuck until the other night when a friend of mine offered me 3000 for it. I checked the kbb value of it and in the condition it is in it's only worth about 3500 or so.

So if I got 3000 I could buy a first gen miata. I drove one and it was pretty fun. I've looked into a lot of mods for it and they seem a lot cheaper than for the focus. I do have some questions though.

First, does you guys think it's a good idea?

Second, is a stock Miata going to be slower than my current ST?

Is the Miata a true sports car?

I love my focus but I really would like a change, it'd get me in a two door, rwd car, and it'd give me something to mod. Thoughts, comments, etc, are all greatly appreciated.

There is much more aftermarket support, they are pretty good little sports cars despite lack of power.

i had 93 miata, last of 1.6 engine. its way slower than my 2001 focus zx3 with zetec motor. the ST is far quicker than miata. but miata is more fun in corners and rwd. if you slap on supercharger than i can see it being quick.

do u have any pics of ur st and with rust? just curious.

The Miata is a small car. If you are big, make certain you drive it with the top up. You may discover it is not any fun top up at all.
Otherwise, if you fit into it, it is a fun car.

I don't have any pics really but the rust is bubbling through on the rockers. Everything underneath has rust on it. It would take a lot of work to get it back to normal. Rockers are also crazy expensive so that's not a good option right now.

I thought about it but I hate most mustangs. I did a lot of looking around for ones I could afford and I honestly wouldn't want any mustang that I could afford for 3k.
