1st Generation Fuel Mileage...
What kind of fuel mileage are you guys getting on your first generation? I'm pretty happy with mine, I took another trip and got 392 miles, and took 10.something gallons.
I have a 2002 SPI 2.0; new plugs and plug wires, synthetic mobil 1 tranny fluid, synthetic mobil 1 motor oil, mobile 1 oil filter, new fram air filter, new fram pcv valve, injectors cleaned, tire pressure raised, and mass air flow sensor cleaned. Pretty happy focus owner, 392 miles on the tank, for a 2002 with 120,000 miles isn't bad! I'm hoping to get 400 miles pretty soon after a tune and new high flow cat. |

I get on average 290 miles a tank which works out to be between 27 - 29mpg. Mine is a Zetec with 111,000mi - Injen intake with K&N cone filter, Magnaflow exhaust, Mobile 1 full synthetic oil and tranny fluid, Royal Purple power steering fluid.
I do have a lead foot and do mostly city driving, sounds like you do mostly highway driving.

I do allot of highway traveling, 50 miles to work and 50 back. I recently got this 392 miles on a 400 mile out of town trip. I was kind of excited about the mileage because before I replaced about every known part that effects fuel mileage that I could think of, I was getting horrible gas mileage. Now car idles baby smooth!

Nice, I average about 24mpg's, though I do live within about 10mi of my work. I do have a lead foot too. I used to get 27mpg's way back in the day, but that was mostly highway with a lead foot thrown in the mix. I have gotten as high as 34-35mpg's but that was on a road trip doing 55mph most of the way.

was getting great mileage, then all of the sudden.....shabam!....the famous bad intake valve seat issue, my SOHC engine is toast. Do yourself a favor, get that head pulled off and replaced now......four or five hundred now is much better than a complete engine tomorrow!
