Hope this helps.
From the owner's manual of a 2005 Focus : During Traction Control operation, the traction control active light will illuminate, you may hear an electric motor type of sound coming from the engine compartment and the engine will not “rev-up” when you push further on the accelerator. This is normal system behavior and should be no reason for concern. At speeds below 85 km/h (53 mph), both the engine and the brake system will be used to control wheel spin; at speeds above 85 km/h (53 mph), only engine torque reduction is used. When the Traction Control system is switched off, the braking system will still be used to control wheel spin at speeds below 40 km/h (25 mph). The Traction Control switch is located on the center console, by the gearshift lever. The Traction Control system will automatically turn on every time the ignition is turned off and on. If you should become stuck in snow or ice or on a very slippery road surface, try switching the Traction Control system off by pressing the switch. This may allow excess wheel spin to “dig” the vehicle out and enable a successful “rocking” maneuver. If you want to turn off the Traction Control system be aware that, for safety reasons, the switch must be pressed and held for at least one second before the system is turned off. To re-engage the Traction Control system, the button must again be held for at least one second. If a system fault is detected, the traction control active light will illuminate, the Traction Control button will not turn the system on or off and your vehicle should be serviced.

Thanks all. i will try and press the button to turn it off. Like i said though even when it is off and i want a quick launch, as soon as the tires start to break free it kicks on and bogs down. I dont drive the car in snow and hardly in rain so i dont really need the system and i just really wanna see what kinda wheel spin is possible.

i believe if you pull the fuse abs wont work either. i have a svt swapped zx3 and it has the plug in for traction control but i run stock svt rotors with stock zx3 brakes. i dont have traction control and this is the only way i know to not have it. i wouldnt attempt it though

I own an '05 ST as well. It IS able to be defeated by the console button, but (like the manual states) it automatically defaults "on" every time you start the car. I can defeat it with the console button, which causes the dash light to go on. When I disengage the traction control, I can spin 'em without the engine cut-out that you are experiencing.
Anyway, that's how it's supposed to work... |
