Interesting to see bypass filtration/oil sampling to determine change intervals in an automotive application.

This has been used quite a bit on over the road trucks, heavy equipment, stationary power units etc., all for diesels which have a higher particulate load issue to deal with.

In the "Big Rigs" I'm most familiar with, an actual "Oil Change" is seldom done when using these systems. Changing filters & adding make up oil is all that's usually necessary with testing done on a regular basis. (million milers out there with nary an oil change)

Usually on those, an "oil change" is only done when the oil analysis reveals an engine issue warranting repair (most often an internal leak that would have caused a larger issue if not caught by oil analysis)

It'll be interesting to see how long you can go with this system on an automobile...

Cheers!

Your math is wrong, I only have 35% more capacity.

Ultra, unfortunately, isn't going to be a dominating competitor to Amsoil Signature Series 5W-20, as it's already at a disadvantage from the start.

1. The awesome (legendary) 5 quart container from Wal Mart selling for ~$27.00 is yesterday's dream. Wal Mart has dropped it from most of their stores, if not all. Ultra is found on their clearance racks now. Doubtful to return, despite the improvement made in the new API SN formulation. I bought all the 5W-20 for my testing purposes on clearance for $4.00 to $5.00 per quart at multiple locations. I bought all that remained (10 quarts total).

2. Pep Boys sells it, but only by quart in most stores. $9.79 per quart is too HIGH! Amsoil Signature is cheaper for preferred customers and will retain TBN longer (longer oil change interval).

It's doubtful I will be able to achieve the same mileage interval with Ultra, as compared to Amsoil Signature Series. Not going to waste my time with anything else commonly found on the shelf. Ultra is the only formulation that could even think about challenging what I already use, despite its downfalls.
In reference to Pennzoil ultra. I keep reading that walmart is going to stop selling it. I have been buying a 27 dollar jug here and there waiting for it to be gone from the local wallmart. Today I was at walmart the latest stock on the shelf of utlra has a rebate sticker. A 10 dollar rebate on a 5 quart jug. Bringing the price down to 17 bucks for 5 quarts. And they had more on the shelf than I have ever seen. Guess it will all be gone tomarrow and everyone who wants it will be paying 50 bucks for a 5 quart jug.

Don't believe all the internet rumors you hear. My Walmart is still selling it as regularly as it has since introduction, for $26.97, with Pennzoil rebate attached.

The newest rumor is that Ultra isn't selling as well as Platinum because, from the consumer's view, "Platinum" sounds like a superior product. So, Pennzoil is going to change the "Ultra" name to "Diamond", so they're phasing out the old product name to make room for the new.

If they do stock it nation wide, Ultra (Diamond) will be the ultimate off the shelf lubricant to buy. Nothing else you buy at WalMart will come close.

Agreed. It's the best thing on the shelf, regardless of whether it's nationwide.

Again, just a rumor for now, though.

Got my Blackstone kit in the mail the other day. Need to send my oil in to get tested. Sitting in a clean container for now.
Replaced the oil with Pennzoil Ultra 5W-20, 17$ after rebate.

Wal Mart has been persistent with it's communications with Amsoil. They want to sell it retail in the U.S., Amsoil doesn't want that. They are loyal to their dealer network.

I remember people who would say, "Amsoil must suck, because Wal Mart doesn't sell it." I laugh, knowing it's the other way around. Wal Mart sells all kind of junk products that perform poorly.
