Recent trip report

Last week we made our first trip in our Focus Titanium, 560 miles each way to Florida then return. Going over we ran about between 70 - 75mph much of the way , fairly heavy traffic through Lousiana (and lots of police on the road), averaged 65.8 mph including gas stops and 36.8 mpg by calculation with no issues with the car at all.

Coming back we were able to pick up the pace a bit, door to door in 7 hours 28 minutes for an average speed of 74.6 MPH including gas stops, I had the cruise set just over 80 most of the time. Milage was down quite a bit though at 34.7 mpg.

Over all I'm pretty pleased, it was more comfortable than a compact car should be and drives very well on the interstates.

What city/beach did you drive to here in Northwest Florida?

Pensacola, no beach though, just golf and visiting my dad who is retired there, 78 and he still plays a pretty good game.

Did you notice a push in the front end on curved interstate bridges at speed(70+)? I noticed it on our trip to OK just after we got the car.

No, I was really surprised at how well it handled at speed. Particularly on the way back Sunday, we spent quite a bit of time over 80 and it was really good.

This was a short banked bridge with a medium to sharp curve at a clover leaf. Almost felt like the tires were chattering. I bet a set of 18" wheels with a sport tire would cure that.

48PSI will fix that. I usually run 10% under max PSI Cold for the tires front and maybe a little lower for the rear tires. The OEM tires are shot and evenly worn, ie not worn more in the middle, thus not overinflated. You will loose some of the Cadillac ride, but it will corner much better.
