Why do small cars have to look like crap?

Maybe it's just me but cars like the ford fiesta (sorry), toyota yaris, avro, mazda 2, honda fit, prius... look like crap. The shape and curves make the car look like a fat midget if you know what I mean.

Why can't small economical cars atleast have some style? Just on looks alone something like a 2001 Honda Civic coupe looks waay sexier than all of the cars mentioned above and probably gets around the same mpg's!

BEauty is in the eye of the beholder.
If you do not like them.. Then do not buy one.
Simple.
American small cars used to be total crap. I never bought one.
Then up comes the 2012 Focus. Not bad for a small American car.
I bought one.
See? simple.

I like the newer Yaris's to the older ones, but I feel that the hatchbacks looks better. But again, it's all personal preference.

The reason they all look the same is due to modern safety regulations. Pedestrian impact laws make the hoods and windshields high, then the back end has to follow to look proportional. The hatchback forms of these cars seek to maximize space, and thus they look like little wedges. Many car makers are going for a similar "theme" for their lineup, with Ford pushing this idea farther than others. This means that design features found on larger models filter their way down to the little ones, for better or worse.

Style, of course, is subjective. In general, I love the look of small cars. IMO the Fiesta is a fantastic looking car, especially the new ST. The Mazda2 looks good, the Fit isn't bad, but I don't care for the Sonic/Spark, besides the headlights and taillights. And to me the Civic has always been one of the most bland and boring designs, especially the 2000s ones.

But the sedan versions of ANY of the subcompacts are just barf. And don't get me started on that Mini coupe thing....

That Chevy whatever it is looks like crap. I have always liked the look of any Fiesta, if you don't like - then don't buy.
