Question 2001 Focus not starting

Hi,

I am just wondering if anyone could help tell me what is wrong. I currently drive a 2001 Ford Focus Zetec 1.6. It has 93k miles on the clock. I woke up one morning to drive and it didn't start and all I got was a clicking sound when I turned the key and the lights turned on and the radio etc worked. I did some research and people said it could be the battery has died. I tried to jump start it about a week later as I was away on business. Yet now there is nothing, the car is completely dead and even with a jump start there is nothing. Has anyone any ideas what could be wrong or what I can check to narrow it down?
If you need any more information just ask and any help will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Matthew

Moved you to the technical chat area and welcome to the forum.

I'd try cleaning the battery terminals and probably a new battery. Over here in the states you can take your battery to the local auto parts store and they can charge it, and check it for free. I dunno if you have the same thing over there across the pond.

Thank you,
I shall try cleaning the battery terminals when I am in from work and see if that works and I will get a new battery. Not too sure about the local autoparts store checking them but I will look into it. Thanks for your help!

Check the negative connection especially. There have also been some FFs who reported finding a 175a fuse in the positive cable near the battery terminal. You might want to do a continuity test.

If it won't jump at all, your battery might be so bad that you can't get enough juice from the other person's battery to get the car to start- or one of the cables is not connected very well. It can be loose at the terminal or at it's connection elsewhere- like the starter for the positive cable, and the engine/trans for the negative.

I got someone to come out and test the battery and he said the battery was so flat it would not jump. Getting a new battery and that will hopefully solve the problem! Thanks for all the help!

Coffey, you may also want to follow up and check the battery cables (+), (-), and related connection points for tightness and make sure no corrosion exists.
