And sadly, the 2010 focus beat out the 10 prius by a long shot cradle to grave again in the study. focus 55 cents a mile compared to the prius $1.89 a mile cradle to grave.
It's actually funny how owners push their mpg (47 to 50 depending on prius model) yet fail to mention tdi vw's get far higher mileage. then theres the fiesta and focus which get 40mpg (some reported mpg higher), which costs less than the prius.
And don't forget to mention the tax credit the prius gets, 7500 i believe?.

Now mr prius I pose a question since your so eco friendly... someone you know is deciding between buying a new prius and a used suburu outback. which is greener?

Response 1 ... Really ??? So few produced ???? In 2007 187,000 Prius were SOLD in the FIRST HALF of the year .... with projections of 345,000 for the entire year. Just a couple more than your 'few' .... The Gen 1 Prius was sold in the US in the year 2000 ... hardly a low-volume newcomer by 2007. By 2008 Prius had sold 1,000,000 cars worldwide, and 1,000,000 cars in the US by April 2011. To date ... almost 3,000,000 have been sold worldwide.

Source please ? Method of calculation please ? Equivalent model comparison ?? Doubtful. Numbers can be made to say ANYTHING depending on how you want the results to come out ... as we'll see in your arguments below, which are easily disproved.

Again ... source please for same year cars. As far as I know ... no US VW TDI has ever been rated higher than the Prius. According to www.fueleconomy.gov the 2010 Prius is rated 51 City, 48 Highway, 50 combined. The 2010 Jetta TDI is rated 30 City, 41 Highway, 34 Combined. Now factor in approximately 10% extra for Diesel fuel higher cost, and we're at 27 City, 36 Highway, 30 Combined. Hmmm .... doesn't seem like your 'facts' are holding up too well so far ....

First .... the number you quote is a HIGHWAY ONLY number. Let's see what the REAL number is ..... again from www.fueleconomy.gov ....

Hmmmm .... 33 for the Fiesta combined .... 31 for the Focus combined. Both a far cry from your quoted 40. An equivalent Focus to the $24K Prius II would probably be a loaded SEL (Auto Climate control, one-touch auto up/down windows, keyless entry, pushbutton start, mag wheels, digital trip computer), etc, etc. Probably about the same price. So how exactly is the EQUIVALENTLY EQUIPPED FOCUS appreciably less than the Base Prius II, which has all the above features and more ?

Well ... to put it quite bluntly .... you once again BELIEVE WRONG. The LAST year that the Prius got ANY tax credit was 2007, and then it was less than $1000. Again .... easily verifiable in one of the links listed above.

See, these I wouldn't mind owning! Or the Volt, for that matter. I'd probably perfer the Volt becuase its American (I know, I know... Semantics) and I'm a closet chevy fan...
