Anybody done an E85 conversion?
Should be a fairly easy way to get some more power, especially if you're boosted. Was wondering if anyone has done so. All you should need is a cell, lines, injectors?, and a tune right?

A kid on FJ was running E85 and he blew the thing up. The problem with E85 is that the 85 in not regulated. If you want big numbers you're better off with race fuel.

interesting, lots of evo's and subi's making good power with E85...
If I had a modded turbo car, I'd consider it. Seems with the propper tuning, injector sizing, etc you can make good gains. Edit: Oh, I wouldn't bother on a N/A car though.

BTW if you want to see the coolest E85 car....IN THE WORLD, watch this video. It's a stock block 1.8L Exige with upgraded internals, twin-charged (turbo & supercharged) running what's essentially E85 (although he's got separate tanks for alcohol and gasoline and can control the alcohol/gasoline ratio). The car is pushing 680hp.... out of 1.8L http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...=HmscSzFurwg#! Last edited by drewts86; 11-06-2012 at 12:27 PM. Reason: fixed link |

The VID shows nothing about e85 if he is doing a custom mixture and he isnt making 680HP on 94 octane fuel , more like he is running e100 or e105 and his octane is 100-108
e85 in my opinion is a dangerous unregulated octane fuel that cost more money then its worth as it lowers the MPG , you pay lower cost for the fuel and lower MPG so where is the trade off ? If e85 was octane regulated like every other fuel sold in the US then yes it would be a good low cost higher octane fuel for NA or Boost I wont run e85 and tell others the down sides of it as well , I have not found an upside to this fuel yet Tom

I wholeheartedly disagree. E85 is totally worth it in a boosted application if it is readily available and the car is tuned/modified to run with it. I have DD'd an E85 car for the last 4 1/2 years. It makes way more power than it could on pump and has the safety factor of high octane.

I think it could be beneficial too but it does need to be more widely available and regulated if it's not. There are benefits to running just as there are things against it. The only thing is finding a tuner willing to play around with it and car owner who is willing to do it too. We already know that there are quite a few OEM cars and trucks out there that are flex fuel capable so it's not like it can't or shouldn't be done.

I won't DD a turbo car without it any more. It is so much better. Now, if you have a car that can't run it because of no way to tune or way to mod fuel system, or you live where there aren't any stations that carry it then it wouldn't be worth it.
