What do I need for an S model that doesn't have DRLs? I have 35w bulbs and ballasts and I'm getting the bulb dim error. Resisters, a relay, or what?

visit my thread, you have all you need to buy and even a wiring diagram on how to wire it, and for your question, even without DRL you NEED a relay harness and also 2 resistors assembly of 50w 6ohm. but just have a look on my thread, there is instalation pictures on the second page and the wiring diagram with what you need to buy is on the first page.

When retrofitting headlights, why is everyone putting in bi-xenon bulbs? Is it even possible to put in two projector lenses one for high beam and one for low beams?

It is possible to wire it so that you can infact have the low-beam projectors flip their shield and go into high beam and if you're nuts you could put in projectors in the high beams as well.

Hey man, I have a 2013 focus and bought an H-11 HID plug and play kit. It would work if the engine wasnt running, the second i started and let it run for about 5-10 seconds they shut off and said "low beam fault" can you send me all your info you have so I can try it out? I appreciate it, thank you.

So, here it is finally, as I was able to finally post pictures on a tread. Haha.

Like I said before, what you need to install a HID kit, on stock headlights are the following.
MAKE THIS MODIFICATION AT YOUR OWN RISK, I AM NOT AN EXPERT, JUST FIGURED OUT A WAY THAT WAS WORKING FOR ME. IF YOU ATTEMPT THIS MODIFICATION, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE MADE TO YOUR CAR. THINK ABOUT IT TWICE !
HIDs IN STOCK HOUSING ARE ILLEGAL, UNLESS YOU HAVE PROJECTORS. BE CAREFULL WITH RESISTORS, THEY GET HOT AND CAN CAUSE A FIRE IN YOUR CAR IF YOU DON'T CONNECT OR PLACE THEM PROPERLY

For low beam HID conversion kit
Material needed:
- 1x HID conversion kit (2x ballast 35 watt 12volt + 2 x HID bulb H11 (single beam)
- 1x universal relay harness
- 2x resistor 6 ohm 50 watt (Can be bought at you local electric supply parts shop, i bought mine for 1,59 each at addison)
- about 4 feet of extra wires (around 16-24 gauge is perfect)
- some skills to weld you wires on the resistors and the by-pass connection (as shown on diagram)

* make sure to mount you resistor on metal !! resistor gets pretty hot !!
1. First disassemble your both headlights (2 screws are holding each of them in place.
2. Disconnect your OEM halogen bulb of the low beams
3. Follow this diagram !

Numbers match the numbers identified on the relay harness (SORRY FOR FRENCH SENTENCES ON THE IMAGES, MADE THIS DIAGRAM FOR A CANADIAN GUY):
#1 = quick connect plug to the ballast (passenger side)
#2 = quick connect plug to the ballast (driver side)
#3 = positive, turn on signal for relay harness - has to be connected to OEM plug, on the yellow wire (driver side)
#4 = ground wire, has to be connected to black wire of your OEM plug (on driver side)
#5 = positive that goes on the battery +
#6 = Groung that you can attach to a metal surface of your car ! (under the driver's side headlight, there is a big black wire that is the main ground of your starter, accessories of your car. I did put mine under this bolt)
#7 = a quick connector I used to fix a new wire (16 gauge) on the number #3 wire
#8 = quick connectors of your HID bulb to your HID ballast
#9 = illustration of wires #3 and #4 that are plugged to your OEM wires (yellow and black)

I do have DRL, but they are low beam at 9 volt. But with the relay harness it doesn't matter, it gives you 12 volt from battery. The problem is when you install them without resistance, the system thinks you have a burned bulb so they cut the voltage. at this pojnt HID flickered.
In my case I added a swith on my relay harness, so when I turn it off, my HID closes and only the resistance are opened, so it gives me no error as resistance are exactly like bulbs, and when I open my swith, part of the current goes on my relay harness to tell it to open the current from the battery to my HIDs.
