SPI engine swap confusion
OK, so i have an 01 lx with the spi engine and it dropped a valve seat. Imagine that. Iv'e been pricing engines and my question is this: Are all 2.0L spi engines from 2001 the same? In the part descriptions that I have been reading, there are comments such as:
"Head casting #YS4E. Without breather hole in left hand side of block, with 4 motor mount holes right hand front of block." Is there some other information I need other than 2001 Ford Focus 4 cylinder 2.0l sohc spi.? Sorry if this is a no-brainer. I just want to be absolutely certain before I buy this... |

Are you looking at re-manufactured or new?
Engine Quest (A&A Midwest) manufactures a new improved head for the SPI. E-bay link... http://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-FOCUS-2...sories&vxp=mtr It's a bare casting but it fixes the inherent issues with the original casting. Anyone ever buy one of these? |

Do yourself a favor and find a Zetec donor car and do the SPI to Zetec swap.

What i need to know is: are all 2.0l spi engines from the focus for a given year interchangeable? When I look at the descriptions about the engines, why are there additional notes about the existence of knock sensors and breather holes? WILL ANY REMANUFACTURED ENGINE DESCRIBED AS A 2.0L SPI ENGINE FOR A 2001 FORD FOCUS WORK? I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm definitely not a mechanic and I need to get this figured out.

They focus more on the actual differences since they cannot actually know what year or model motor they have in their hands once it's out of car. Common for rebuilders..............
Sorry, but best thing is to compare all those notes to your engine, they could easily give you what they call a 2001 motor and it not be. When you buy your own engine the assumption is that you are smart enough to be able to tell which one you need, if not, you are not smart enough to put it in successfully. No insult intended of course. |
