I've had pretty good luck with kuhmo line. I've had the 4x's & now I have the AST's on. I have not had the AST's in the snow yet though so I cant help there, but seeing as you live in LA, that should not be a factor.

More info would be helpful. Are you looking for a summer or all season tire? Do you prefer life expectancy over performance? How will the tire be used (daily driver, any motorsports activities, etc.)?

I ran those exact tires on my 2-valve Mustang for years, several sets in fact. They held up great even with quasi-frequent dragstrip usage. Where'd you hear about sidewall problems?

Well, not quite exact. Mine were 245/45 17. But same tire line.

well i live in baton rouge louisiana so it gets pretty hot down here, but it can get cold too.

but no need for winter performance because it never snows and even more rarely do the roads ice.

it rains, and id prefer not to slip...

my driving pattern varies from conservative to aggressive, but never really taking corners too too hard.

id like to not have to buy tires again for a while (i drive 10k-12k miles a year)

so for the times where i have a spirited driving spree, id like the car to not fall apart.

going from that, what should i look at?

A couple of us over hear in Houston area run both the evo 12s and the DWs. I like the DW alot. Good traction dry and wet. I can really push the car through turns with no fear. Tire life is really good on these as well. Probably better than the evo 12. But they are around $120 or so a tire. The others who run the evo 12 like them alot saying good traction and handling.
