Besides the abuse reason, I'd never buy one (in the US, at least) because they're all automatics.

Geez, what's with all the hate on poor little rental cars? They're the World's Greatest Off-Road Vehicle (any model).

I wouldn't buy a rental. I once had a Chevy Cobalt rental that was down 3 quarts of oil. But my 2012 SE 5-door is available :) I have 2013 Fusion on order!

Most of the people I've known that have bought rental cars have had pretty good luck with them.

The rental company and manufacturer knew it had problems, let's put it that way. It had crossed state lines and was at a dealership when I bought it at 16,000 miles - clean CarFax report, but it took a lawsuit to find out that the problems did not start after I took possession.

Played with my dads rental car this evening: a 2012 Ford Mustang v6. Automatic. Would spin the tires a bit. We didn't push it too hard. I was just curious if it would live up to the hype.

I would be inclined not to buy a rental. But I'm sure there are some good ones out there on the market to be had. It would be the luck of the draw so to speak.

My sister used to have an 04 zts 2.3 that she gave to my grandparents it had around 20k now it's around 120k. Only problem wad the fuel filter getting clogged. Oh and the dealer wrecked it and lied then fixed it poorly then fixed it again all on their dime. Overall it was still very nice. Even 8 years later.
