Regular Car Reviews: 2014 Focus ST

If you subscribe to Regular Car Reviews you have probably seen the ST review. If not, you should. The reviews are hilarious and not like other car reviews.

This week they feature a 2014 Focus ST

Well, that video took a left turn at the end haha.

It's a pretty entertaining series, I believe they did the SVT Focus last week.

"You're not gonna feel the boost until you get way up at the top of the rev range" ???

My experience was the opposite.

The power-band on the ST is actually quite linear, so I agree with him on this one. It's not like other turbo cars where you get a kick in the @$$ when the turbo finally spools up.

When I test drove one it felt like the turbo was giving up toward redline.

With the ST you do get that kick in the pants around 2000 rpm or so if you start to lay on the throttle up to or through 5000 rpm or so +.

Drive docily and the turbo will cut in and out as required without too much drama put punch it and it spools up the turbo and goes.

I'll have to drive another one.. I've only put about 40ish miles on a Focus ST.

I honestly didn't feel any turbo kick in the ST at all. I could be biased, my Subi has hella turbo-lag, so when the boost hits, it goes sharkeisha status.

I don't see how you could drive an ST anywhere and not notice the boost. Unless you're just putting around a parking lot you'll feel it. If you drive full on grandma status and keep it below 2k then sure you won't feel anything, but even under average driving you get a big kick in the pants once it hits boost.

Drive a speed3, evo, or really any other turbo car and you will understand. The ST's powerband is very linear compared to the peaky feel of other turbo'd cars.
