Not sure but I'm definitely interested too in making my ignition push to start and remote start (helps heat up the car during the winter) so yeah if anyone has done it let us know...

This is almost Identical what my ST has. It has a Key FOB instead of a "credit card" style Passive RF remote

most shops will carry and install dei products (viper, python, avital . . .), code alarm, autostart, crimestopper. all good brands with different options and prices. i'm an installer and have done many over the years. A professional install is always recommended since you're messing with the vehicles electronics. Also keep in mind that you will need a bypass module due to the chipped key and that requires you have two keys for the car to program that module (you get both back after the install). If the car is an ATX then it's pretty straight forward; if a MTX then it will require specific mtx compatible models and additional parts. These mtx units have a safe mode to make sure the car can not be remote started while in gear.
Push button start is even easier to put in. Just need a desired button and a bit of wiring knowledge. I have remote start/keyless/security on my focus as well as a custom ignition setup with push button start and love it. Lots involved in it, but well worth it.

got mine installed last year, not sure what the installer used for the remote start. a wrench light has been on since the install, something about the computer saying a drivetrain issue, not liking the remote start.

should have taken it back right away. there is no reason it should trigger that in a focus. there are certain gm models (like saturn) that will do that, but not ford.

Update!
I got it installed yesterday. Told my wife that this was what I wanted for Christmas.
Went with the Code Alarm CA6552 2-way starter and security system with keyless entry and trunk pop. It had one of the smallest two-way remotes of all the systems I looked at. Important since I carry my keys in my pants pocket. It also has an option to add an iPhone interface to remotely start, lock/unlock, or even track the car from anywhere in the world. But that's a $225+ add-on that I really don't need. $380 installed with lifetime warranty. Obviously early, but so far, I like it a lot. |
