Remote not working properly

I have a 2012 Focus SE without push start. My problem is that once in awhile the lock, unlock or trunk release buttons will not work on my key. I know I am not in a dead spot because I am able to get the buttons to work if I jump back in the car and start the car. What could be causing this? Both of my keys do this at least once a week.

Could be a few things...I'd spring for a new battery and see what happens..after that...its back to the dealer for warranty work

I believe there is a TSB update regarding that issue that your dealer will have to do.

Happens to me, too. I think it's the hardware of the buttons. They feel off sometimes. I just keep trying. Only once it took me 15 seconds of hitting because it didn't want to unlock.

Like Symbology said, there is a TSB for this. I had this problem and the dealership took care of it. They had to reprogram the software for the keyless entry. It has worked 99.99% perfect since then. I have only had one reoccurrence of it not working properly in the last 4 months.

I would go back to the dealer. I had this problem also, plus the backup key wouldn't work at all to start the car. Since the dealer reprogrammed them, they work perfectly.

You guys saying there's a TSB should at least be kind enough to post said TSB if there really is one.

For you guys with problems, if it's not working try just holding the button so you don't wear the buttons prematurely. If you hold the button it will eventually do what it's supposed to.

ISSUE:
Some 2012 Focus vehicles built on or before 8/3/2011 may exhibit a condition where the key fob buttons do not unlock the doors.

ACTION:
Reprogram the body control module to the latest software calibration level using the IDS release 74.03 or higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2011.7 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com.
