Rearview mirror paint panels

Are the painted portion of the exterior rear view mirrors difficult to remove? ( can they be removed at all?)

One of the accessories that Mini offers is the checkered flag mirror covers and I'd like to try that look on the Focus

When my neighbor put a nice big scratch in mine, the body shop seemed pretty confident it could be popped off to repaint.

I'm not entirely sure how to do it, as I decided to wait on the repair (Have some touch-up paint thanks to Zillion I will try when the weather gets warmer). You might need to pop the mirror off the front to get at it from inside?

Come to think of it, I have a buddy at a local body shop. Maybe I could stop by and see if he has one of those body repair manuals with exploded views to show how it goes together. Silly me for not thinking of that before, especially since I was going to get him to do the painting anyway! LOL

Side view mirrors and rear view mirrors are technically different. You mean the former.

You can always vinyl them or some people even plasti-dip them. I'm pretty sure they can be removed, just can't tell you how as I've never done it.

That's actually a great idea... plasti-dip or vinyl to make sure you like the look before making it final. Good luck BlueJay and post pics when you are done!

Gonna check with a sign company in Richmond tomorrow about vinyl wrapping the mirrors...will post what I find out

Took the car to sign company today and he says it shouldnt be a problem to wrap the mirrors in the checkered flag pattern. He will give me a price quote and generated image in the next couple days.

That good news got my brain churning with ideas of how I could compliment that mods with some other themed touches.

I've noticed several posts about decal overlays on the "Ford" ovals, front, back, and steering wheel. I sent an email to TFB Designs about the possibility of producing some thing like these...

And finally a wheel center cap design to carry the theme...


Personally I like the chrome or blue lettering that would go well with the car color as well as the wheel cap centers.

I think the checkered flag on the mirrors would look pretty awesome :) is he going to supply you with a photoshop or something?

not sure how the checkers will look on a curved surface especially with stretching the vinyl. i vote solid color.

Yeah I think they do an image to give you an idea of the finished product before they move forward. As far as the curved surface is concerned, vinyl wrap is all about that on cars...I'm sure he has faced putting an image over many curved places, and worst curve will be facing the door but I'll wait to see what he has to say.
