Wheel gap.

So it's time to get new tires and I'm looking at a couple different sizes. I realize that with a lower profile tire I will have more wheel gap. How much of a difference will it make if I go to a 205/45/16 vs 205/50/16? I have the frpp kit so its lowered a little bit. If anyone has pictures that would be awesome too!

i'd stick w/ the 205/50 if it were me. a 45 series tire would look better on a 17" wheel to me than a 16" wheel.

Wheel gap.

The 45 or 50 is the sidewall expressed as a percentage of the width. A 205/50 will have a 102.5mm sidewall. A 205/45 will have a 92mm sidewall. There are ~25mm in an inch.

You cannot say "a 45 series looks better than xxx" without knowing the width of the tire. A 205/50/16 and a 225/45/16 will look virtually identical from the side.

Google "miata tire calculator" for an awesome tire size tool.

I use that site all the time.

My suggestion is to stick with the 205/50 for daily driving...it will also save you some cash over the 45 series.

^^^^^^ Agreed, narrower will be better especially if you ever run into snow up there in Wisconsin.
