So Good news...Sorta

My car is almost paid off, I'm thinking of making it into a track car. What kind of track I don't. really know. My first idea is to boost it and make it into a drag car but I want some ideas from more experienced people on the subject.

What 'bout trying autox? Try that a few times & see how you like it. The foci is similar to a miata/mx5 momentum car, & that gets you on the track. For a drag car, I'd look at a foxbody 5.0. I prefer stangs, over the other foxbodys.

Autox has been mentioned to me by the car guys at work it's a possibility. Furthermore if I could get my hands on a Fox body I would.:)

Depends what you like to do, and whether it's going to be a dedicated racer or primarily a street car.

People on the Forum have had fun & been successful at all types of racing with the Focus, so it's up to your preference.

Auto-X is a good intro to sports car type racing, and any car can go to the drags to see if you enjoy that. Track days can get you on a real road course, and there's even Rally-X for an intro to the dirt.

We've got members successful at circle track racing & road racing, as well as pro rally, so the higher levels are possible as well. That takes a lot more commitment, so you'd be well served to try a few things before making a decision.

I would have to make a trip to a track during an open night or something similar.

Keep in mind that if you're going to do racing for money (not street racing money), that you'll be in some type of class. So you'll want to build to the rules of that class ... and you may find out that you're significantly outgunned and won't make any money, but have spent a ton to find that out.

Best option is to go and watch races or participate and talk with the guys doing the racing; or the guys putting on the event. They should be able to help you with classes, rules and such. Once you know those things you can pick parts better.

For the most part, the Focus isn't a good drag car if you're looking to make money. It's way out gunned. When Honda's can crack 10's all motor and 7's boosted but the Focus can barely manage 11's boosted, it's just a lost cause.
