Music Playback Question

I bought a 2012 Focus SE last weekend and I absolutely love it, but it seems to be the plain version with just the aux port in the glove box and nothing in the center console, I bought a DC to USB Converter to plug in the center so I can charge my phone while I'm playing music, but one thing I can't seem to figure out for the life of me is how do I control my music through my console / get the tracks to show up on the screen, I don't have sync. Is it even possible? I feel like using my phone to change songs while im driving isn't very safe.

This is what my center console looks like, I have no bluetooth or anything.

If you don't have bluetooth, I don't think you'd be able to change songs externally. There's nothing to communicate with the phone. (my speculation)

^+1 All I had in my old Mustang was an aux input and there is no way to display songs on the screen or control it from the radio/steering inputs. We have a focus like this as one of our company cars, so I've had a bit of experience with your system lol probably should go aftermarket if you can afford it if you want that functionality.

Damn, thanks for the replies. So It looks like I'll have to either suck it up or go with aftermarket.

When you say 'Aux input', you mean a 'headphone jack', not a USB connection right?

The 'headphone jack' does nothing but carry audio. You'd need USB or bluetooth connectivity for more than that. Even then, there's limited compatibility.
