Newly Aquirred 04 Focus LX 4dr... Needing information

So i Just picked up a 04 focus 4 door LX with the single over head cam for 700 bucks. It has 225K on the odometer and it still can run down the highway at 70 mph. I know it is almost at the end of its life and a new engine would be required soon. So can I put a 2.3 in my car with DOCH? If no can I put a 2.0 in my car with DOHC? Or am I restricted to the SOCH?

My options with the car are:

1. fix the minor things (such as oil change, tune up) and sell it off and make some money...

2. just replace the engine and have the tranny looked at and make sure everything else is good, keep it, sell my other car, and have a few bolt ons budget of about 3K.

3. Go all out on it and make it a 10K car with about 6-7K under the hood alone.

I know I wont get any true resale value unless I try to flip it but even then my gain would only be a few hundred, nothing really to brag about. Then again it is my second car so I can completely turn it into a project car.

I would like to go total NA and I saw a tread where a guy was building an engine that has over 12:1 compression. Thats the type of engine that I would like to build as well as all of "ground work" like coil overs, sway bar upgrades.

I am leaning toward keeping it so either way I am going to have to replace the engine So I do start completely over with a new block and build from the ground up or do i rebuild the block that I have and make the upgrades that way?

Where can I get a bare short block so I can order a crank and pistons that are balanced for it and build it up from there?

Id say go for the zetec swap. Alot of the SPI guys go that route. Its the 00-04 2.0 DOHC engine.

Question: I have noticed that most of the engine swaps were from 2.0L to 2.0L why not go to the 2.3L?

I finally got some under the hood time and this is what I saw.

The radiator needs to be mounted properly, It is being held on with some thin wire and rests against the exhaust manifold heat shield.

The door handles need to be repaired as they only work from the inside not the outside.

The inside needs some serious cleaning...

There is a piece on the exhaust manifold that needs to be replaced.

The front bumper needs to be replaced.

Passenger side mirror needs to be replaced.
