dropped valve seat, ideas?
A friend of mine is willing to sell me their focus sohc with a bad valve seat, i have already done a rebuild on my old car before i got my svt, but i was thinking of buying this and selling for profit, i am not entirely opposed to a zetec swap, i used the Spartan/ATK head last time: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...=cylinder+head
but i has a bad review on this site.... maybe they didnt clean all of the seat out of the intake?? anyone else have problems a with replacement head? my old car is still on the road and has been for about 6 months. |

I dont think we have enough information to give you any advice.
If all you need is to replace the head and the internals on the cylinder that dropped, you might be able to turn a profit. If it needs a new motor, you are probably cutting your profit margin pretty slim. A lot depends on the amount of work that needs to be done, the year, milage, and details on the car, the price you buy it at, etc. etc. etc. If you did all the labor yourself you might make a few bucks, personally, I don't think it would be worth the effort, but I don't have enough information to provide an informed decision.

Personally, I think you would be fortunate to get 2500 out of it. especially after an engine rebuild.
But it looks like you can turn a profit if you want. The question becomes: is the profit worth the time. I don't know how long it would take you to complete. 1500 is not a bad chunk of change. go for it if you think it is worth it, and post a build thread.

Finally found time to go check it out yesterday. Pulled the spark plugs, but I couldn't find one that was too beat up. Cranked it over and it really sounds like crap.
