Trouble filling up gas tank.

The other day as I was filing up the pump kept on shuting down every 1/4 gallon or so. Very annoying, and since I was running late for work I only put 2 gallons in. On the way home I figured I'd fill up the rest of the way at a different gas station, Well, Same thing happened. Pump was shutting off at 1/4 gallon increment or so. Is it a freak thing or has other people had this problem? Ill see if it does it on next fill up.

The pump is told to shutoff based on backpressure, so if it keeps doing it there could be something wrong.

I've run into bad pumps/nozzles in the past that would only squeeze out a shot at a time unless you squeezed the handle a lot less and slowed the flow. Some of the nozzles are AFU -- it's unlikely you have a problem with you has tank.

However, if you continue to have this problem and at other gas stations then bring it to the dealer...

That particular pump is set to deliver fuel faster than it can go down your tank pipe.
Use a different pump.
Where I usually buy gas, the pumps can flow far more gas than my tank can accept.
I just squeeze the handle less. Then less fuel is pumped per second, and the device does not shut off the pump.

The flaw is the person setting the fuel flow, and such at the station.

This did happen at 2 different pumps and even when I tried to slow the gas flow down it still would cut out. Im curious to see if it does this on next fill up. If it does I'm going to make an appointment at the dealer.

had this happen on two work trucks. there should be a little flange near the tank that if it gets moved or damaged (in the case some one is trying to siphine gas). or your breather tube is.damaged. doesn't allow the air to come.back up.

Just filled up Friday. This time yet another gas station and same thing seems to be happening. Time for a call to the dealer.

This happens to my wife's G35x. For the Infiniti, its the gas backing up into breather tube which shuts off the pump. We have to set it at a slow fill speed. Yours is probably doing the same thing. So the dealership should replace the filler tube. This is the first time I have heard of this problem in our Foci. Never happened to me and I have 61 fill ups as of today.

Hopefully your dealership will fix the issue with no hassle.

I'm currently having a similar issue. Check it out, hopefully it'll help.

Ironically I only filled up the car twice since this problem and once it was bad and once it worked fine. My dealership is over an hour away so on its next oil change I'll let them know. Should be in about 2 weeks time.
