Games playable on Netbook?
My recent promotion requires me to travel sometimes and stay at hotels etc. So I gave in and bought a netbook. Before you ask why I didn't just get a tablet... I need to use it for work also, and I wanted a keyboard... and Windows.
I know netbooks aren't made to play games, that wasn't my priority when buying it. This netbook has the Intel Atom 1.6ghz dual core with the on-chip GMA 3600 for graphics. It also came with 1gb of memory but I tore it apart and put a 2gb stick in. So far I have Torchlight 2 downloading from Steam and the WoW trial downloading. I tried the new XCOM: Enemy Unknown but it wouldn't even launch the game! So, my question is, what games, old or new do you think or have you had running on a netbook? Just looking for ways to kill time/boredom in hotel rooms, etc.

i can tell you from personal experience , that other than browser games , nothing will properly on a netbook
You would have been better off buying a windows tablet and bluetooth keyboard. Netbooks were not designed for a large load to be placed on the CPU. the CPU is a low power energy efficient CPU , most it can handle is watching a movie. I worked retail for computers for 12 years , i always had people ask me the same questions. and then tell me i was right when they bought a netbook anyway. you can get small laptops like for example the ASUS 1225B-SU17 it has a APU which is significantly better than a ATOM CPU and can play some basic games. It comes in a 11.6 size which is small . However to each their own. But since you already have netbook, install chrome and go to the chrome webstore and find free games there that can occupy your time. EDIT* Chrome Web Browser Not OS. I looked into laptops too, but this netbook pretty much dominated in battery life (great for flights). I watched 3 movies in a row on the same battery charge just to see how far it would go. Like I said, I didn't buy it to be a gaming powerhouse, it is a work machine. But something to kill time wouldn't hurt.
I'm a die-hard Chrome user, I have Angry Birds on that. I considered getting a PS Vita for gaming on the go, but there just isn't a whole lot of games out to justify it. Of course, I also have my Android phone to play on, I was just curious on what was available for the little netbook. A tablet just isn't a computer to me.

Oblivion and Torchlight 2 run great. I got tired of waiting for WoW to download, its like 20gb. And I wouldn't pay the monthly fee anyway.

oblivion ran great..... wow thats new. torchlight 2 i can see running , they run a pretty low tech engine behind it all. and its not really very gpu intensive.
but yes Chrome browser games are entertaining and free , and will run easily. |
