Octane Boosters?
Do Octane Boosters really work? Up here in the "Great White North", premium gas is about 20 to 25 cents per litre more than regular gas. I found that when I use premium, the car runs better all round. I was thinking, that if Octane Boosters really work, it might help offset the characteristics of winter gas.

no.
when the bottle states it will boost octane 1 point, it means 0.1 octane. so to get any real effect you would need like 10 bottles per tank. definately not cost effective.

buy premium gas and add a bottle of that to the tank.
i've noticed my ride run better when using octane boost. anyone who drives my car will probably notice that actually. but i don't use octane boost alot.

When i added a bottle of "Techron", it did improve performance of my Contour SVT, which used premuim gas (required). while the Techron was in the gasoline. Once it was used up, performance dropped back to normal.

Most if not all of those additives will leave deposits on your spark plugs.
I do not recommend them to anyone for any reason.

No, if they really worked everybody would be using them. Also winter gas has a higher octane than summer gas.

If your serious google toluene. A lot of people use it to make home-made race gas well above 93 octane and is a lot more economical than little bottles.

Techron is for cleaning your fuel system. It's the best product you can use (just ask any MB or Porsche tech), and you should only use it right before an oil change. It doesn't "foul" anything. I run a bottle every 5k i all my cars, and have for 20 years.
Octane boost is a waste of time. Shell VPower 93 is the best gasoline you can buy, as far as mas-produced premium. |
