How effective is our SecuriLock system?

I have an opportunity to get aftermarket security systems for dang good prices. I have never purchased a security system, and honestly don't know much about them.

I do know our SecuriLock system supposedly will only allow the vehicle to be started with the right key, or it will immobilise the ignition. Is this accurate?

What about break-ins? We don't leave anything in our vehicle other than registration, a sync cable, and our daughter's car seat. Stereo is factory, but if I decided to upgrade, I would think I would need something more secure.

All that plus tinted windows... Does it get much more secure?

Cars are stolen for one of two reasons.
First is moment of opportunity. the thief wants a car, yours is handy and easy to steal.
Second is pros wanting a car to sell the parts.

The first sort is really not going to steal your car with the antitheft system already in it.
Only if you left the key in the car.. then yeah..

The second sort is not going to care about your security system. nor any aftermarket one either.
They will just steal the car. period.
So I say forget the aftermarket alarm. Usually they suck anyway.
the only good ones would notify you the car was moved, and where it is right now.
If you can buy one of those, yeah, get it. Otherwise not worth the bother.

If all you are getting is one which blares the horn everytime a truck goes by.. Please, i will shoot you myself!!

Haha! There is a chopped up Civic hatchback in our parking garage that goes off every time someone next to them shuts their car door. Ha!

I was thinking pretty much the same thing. So, maybe a LoJack or one of the Viper alarms with the GPS and iPhone app.
