First Track Event with the ST

So, I instruct with the local DelVal BMWCCA club and today and tomorrow we're at Pocono North course for our finale HPDE school.

I figured the ST would be fun to drive, but wasnt too sure. Well, it's not fun it's FLIPPING OUTSTANDING!

A few things to note:
1. It will need a better oil cooler
2. Bring Gas as it runs rich and chews through gas
3. With less than 1/2 tank it will fuel cut under high load high rpm

Other than that I ran the tires down to 30psi in the front and 32psi in the rear. This combo made the car grippy and had the back end waggin like a puppy happy to see its master which was nice cause it was very controllable and caused many others with higher hp and r comps fits as they couldnt flick right and left as quickly as this car could. My assumptions about oil temps could be because the engine is tight. One other thing to note is it needs to be louder, because with a helmet on you can't hear it and makes it tough to know whether you need to up shift or downshift. I'm too busy looking where I am going to glance at the tach. The one time I did look down at the end of the straight it was way into the 100 mph closing in on 120 before I had to dab the brakes to turn in to the infield.

Now he's got 1000 miles on it and it should begin to get better. I did run 100 octane in it and it was fun to see the boost get damn close to 25 psi.

Overall, an outstanding car! The oil temps were getting close to 300, so I would back it down and drive slowly to cool it down. It seems that it hangs around the 3/4 mark for a while before it creeps up, so that tells me that it's needing more break in time and it wouldn't hurt to have an extra cooler.

I happy as I got 30mpg coming home, so tomorrow I'll head back, but won't drive it. The link below is to the photog's site to see the cars there.
