Low RPM engine hesitation

There's probably a thread out there that mentions this issue or has a topic about it somewheres but I just thought I would start another, because hey, what the hell.

I purchased my '13 SE almost 3 weeks ago, and I love everything about it. However since I got it (it had ~200 miles on it when I bought it), there has been engine hesitation off and on, usually at low RPM through third gear (automatic). I really have been noticing that its happening more often since I put in my K&N intake last week. Since I dropped in the intake I have put roughly 100 miles on the car. Right now my car is idleing at right around 750 RPM when at a stop light, for example. I feel like this is low? Unfortunately I never noticed my idle level before putting the intake in so I can't know for sure what it was at before.

My questions are: was I supposed to conduct some sort of tuning procedure after installing the intake? Would the new intake even cause this issue? Is this all in my head as the result of a new mod?

Moved to MK3 TSB, Recall & Problems Archive.

No, there is no tuning procedure. No, the intake wouldn't be causing the issue. Yes and no, it is partially in your head.

You are obviously paying attention more now that you've installed the intake. Based on the information, I would assume that you are still well below 1,000 miles. You need to give the car time to learn and adapt to the new intake as the new Focus has adaptive learning.

That being said, take note but don't be overly worried about your fuel mileage. Drive the car semi-aggresively, though not RACECAR, as the general input from the community is that the transmission learns best this way. Ensure that you use three full tanks of gas before assessing your vehicles driving experience. If your DCT is equipped with S mode, use that occasionally and vary your shift points.

Try not to be hyper-critical during this 1,000 miles, but do take note of problems that you think exist. If it is still present afterwards, it may need to be looked at (sans intake, of course). Honestly though, by that time I'm sure it will have worked itself out.

dyn085, thanks very much for the info and advice. I have never owned a truly "new" car before so I guess this is part of the learning process for me as well. Thanks for moving the thread to the proper annals of the forum too.

I'll just treat it as 'it is what it is' for now, and keep an eye on it.

Mine idles at around 675rpm, so 750 isn't low. I don't have any hesitation from the engine itself, just the DCT...

DCT issue, when it rains....it pours.

The only way around this is to driving it with a lead foot. I have not found a solution nor has Ford offered any fix, they marketed a car and transmission with great fuel economy but it came with strings attached.

I have taken to heart what dyn085 was saying. i have been driving with a little more 'firmness' i guess you could say and not really worrying about my gas mileage right now. I have only used a tank and a half of gas since I bought the car (and put on just about 450 miles for ~15 gallons )

I owned an 2010 Escape before this that I got used and my focus blows it out of the water
