Humorous - trouble parking straight in parallel parking spots

I have had my SE Sport for going on 6 weeks now and over 2,000 miles. I drive it to work, store, school; pretty much everywhere. When I pull into or back into a parallel parking spot I still cannot seem to get the car straight with the lines. No trouble with for/aft placement or being centered side to side, but I am always 1 or 2 degrees off on angle. Being concious of it I overcorrect and then I am off in the other direction.

It isn't a big deal and I actually find it funny. I parked my F150 in some pretty tight places for many years without issue. I also parked my GT Mustang Convertible and Mustang Pony without issue so this is confusing.

Maybe it is something about the 'kinetic design' that just doesn't want to be straight. It is more likely that whatever it is that I use br reference to align the car must not be straight with the car's direction of motion; that is really all I come up with. I just find it interesting because I see other Gen III Focii parked on an angle in the lots too.

Hopefully it goes away in time. The dealers seem to be able to get it right ...they are all parked tight together and very well aligned. Time will tell!

16,000 miles and I'm in the same boat. The body style is completely different than anything I've ever had and think that's a big part of it. If you can look down on your car (at least with the sedan) you can see how much narrower the rear of the car is. I also have a hard time with the front. I'm used to hard corners at the front of the car (bumper) and this one just doesn't have them.

I parallel park all the time (big city girl) and nope not a bit of a problem.
My only worry is the fragile looking bumpers Parallel parking is going to ceetainly get bangs inot ones bumpers no matter how careful on is. The 2012 Focus thin design bumpers make me nervous, especially the front.
The rear it is just that thin line sticking out. (Which already had a ding within a few weeks)

I think you guys just need to get used to the car. I live in NYC and parallel parking is basically the ONLY way to park and I have had no trouble getting my car into a spot perfectly.

This is my first car with the reverse sensing system...and now it is so much easier than ever before to park.

Same here!! I've always been (dorkily) proud of my parking skills, but this car has knocked me down a peg or three. I can't park it in my driveway without one of the wheels hanging off into the grass about an inch.

Parks.
Checks alignment.
Front wheel off driveway.
Backs up.
Shimmies the Focus to the side a bit.
Checks alignment.
Back wheel off driveway.
Shakes fist at the sky.
Repeat.

I think the OP was referring to parking between parallel lines, not parallel parking.

And I too notice my car rarely comes out straight. Sort of like trying to park an egg straight.

I'm pretty sure that this is something that should demand a recall. Not being straight in the lines is a safety issue, as two degrees is easily noticeable by others, and if they talk smack I am liable to endanger their safety.

All joking aside, I quit trying to back into spaces. I can back into my driveway straight sometimes, but I don't overly care because my grass hides the imperfect parking job. That, and it looks better.

Between the lines parking is good also.
I think anyone who has problems it is they focus (pun) on the angle of the window sill. Since it is a straight line but is tilted way up toward the back of the car, it could make some get messed up. My theory anyway.

In my garage spot i have a tennis ball on a cord. The guy to my right has a challenging spot to park, and i give him four extra inches. So my tennis ball is offset four inches. I line it up to the rear wiper base within a half inch every time.
The other side of my spot the person has to park slightly diagonally to get past a sump pump in the floor. So the car past HIM has to be over a bit.
I park backing in. and get the line perfect so these others can also park well.

Across from my parking space is a rather old half blind guy who seems to think he has two spaces. He is always a half-foot into the next space, even though on his other side he has five extra feet of space open to him.. Crazy.
My theory on that is he cannot see on that side... He is the slowest driver I ever saw. Speed limit 30 he is going 20.. Really.

I had that problem at first with my old Grand Prix...the driver's front window and "ledge" was at an angle, not perfectly parallel with the car, so when I used it as a guide, I was always off. Perhaps it is the same with the Focus, because I don't have any problems with it since learning from the GP.
