New (to me) SVT in San Diego
Anyone have a manual I can borrow? All the threads I read say that the Haynes/Helm/etc. All suck for the SVT.
I have worked out some of the problems, but still have a laundry list of issues. I posted a thread, but no replies in the last week. I linked the thread to "Technical" so hoping to get responses there. I don't know what the specs are on the sensors. My mechanic says $570 (parts included) to do timing belt, pulleys, and water pump. I'm probably going that route. To order parts($200-300), tools ($30), etc. will cost me more in money and time. Any help will be appreciated on the other problems and manual (or recommendations for a good manual) Thanks!

I'm not sure if there is a good manual for the SVTf, none of the major repair book companies ever made one for it. I have a 00-04 haynes manual, and then just look around on here for any questions i have.
Regarding the timing belt, thats about average for the whole package deal. Come join us at a meet! I cant wait to see your ride!

It will take you longer if you do it yourself but you will learn about your car in the process; if you don't know enough, def have someone who knows help you out or just set up tech day: provide food and beers and they will come...that's what I did, and they came lol

I did decide to try it myself. Ordered gates kit, water pump, and cam tools. Going to make room in the garage and hope for <100* weather this week.

I'll purchase anything I don't have, but I think I have the tools. Didn't see the focaljet one, but it provides additional pics. I also found this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4IgVvfovhA As long as I don't run into any problems (or find more) it will be replaced and running before the weekend is over.

Got it all tore down tonight. I was shocked and amazed at a few things.
-The water pump pulley nuts were hand tight....didn't need a socket to remove them. -The Tensioner was broken. -I do not have a 'lower splash cover'. -The previous abuser REALLY liked anti-sieze on his plugs. -Removing the crank pulley was the hardest...had to use the starter and breaker bar trick. My impact wrench wouldn't do the job. Big question: How am I sure that I'm at TDC and not BDC? I can see Piston 1 up, but I also see Piston 4 up. I had this issue once in my Firebird and overheated the engine. I just want to be sure I'm doing it correctly. I put the pin in and rotate the engine. It hits, but if I rotate it backwards a bit, it hits again. Nowhere in this span do the cams lineup for the bar to slip in both slots.

So what I have seen done is that you want to mark with white out BEFORE you move the cam gears out of position the valve cover and the cam gear with a line so that you can line those two up again when you are putting it bak together but it kinda sounds like you already moved them outta position though ....

I want to insure that the timing is tits before I put the new belt and pulleys on. I want to be 110% sure everything is correct, so I don't have to do this job twice. I picked up a new tensioner today. After looking at the new one, the outer lip was also missing. The belt looks new, so I'm not too worried about that.
