I took it to the dealer today, and they wouldn't take it on a long enough drive to replicate it. I'm supposed to take it back Tuesday and drop it off, but all they say is "That's how electric assist steering works."
If that's how electric assist steering really works you'll be trading your car in soon.

Have you checked the tire pressures?

Tire pressures are good all the way around. The technician basically told me I didn't know what I was talking about, in a polite manner. The service manager is supposed to drive it when I take it back, hopefully that leads to some resolution. It isn't safe on the highway currently.

I hope you get that resolved.

It seems that any issues with the steering can be tricky because it can be "off" in varying degrees. I know some people have said that it's the nature of electric steering assist but I can tell you that the steering feel on my car is as close to perfect as I can imagine.

I've had no trouble with steering, including a few ~150 mile freeway drives. I have seen several people report this symptom, though. The main case I can recall was eventually resolved by replacing the steering rack.

The boost does drop at speed (same as with some hydraulic systems). You want less steering boost on the freeway than in a parking lot. But the car -- or at least mine -- doesn't become difficult to control, either very stiff or really twitchy. The dealer needs to take a better look. You might also want to search the forums and contact the other users reporting the problem to help document the fact that it's not just you, even if it is (hopefully) a rare problem.

Took the car in today. Dealer just called. And I got exactly what I expected...... ”all is normal, that's just electric steering. There were no codes thrown.” lol..... not to happy.
