Glad to hear yours is better, too!

Posted this update on my wife's Focus in the other tranny thread. Apologies to those of you who read both threads.

Still shifts much smoother. Once in a while I think I feel a very slight shudder when first accelerating from a stop, but so slight it could just be paranoia at this point.

A new issue. When climbing a moderately steep hill (about 5% grade) the tachometer fluctuates/pulsates by about 100 to 200 RPMs. On smaller hills the fluctuation is less. It seems much more difficult to keep it at a steady speed when climbing hills. I haven't tried using cruise control to see what happens, but I will tomorrow.

I AM SHOCKED!!! Here is what I have found out... When traction control is disabled, shudder is reduced. However, when Advancetrac is *completely* disabled there is no shudder at all. ZERO!
*(when its fully disabled, apparently hill assist shows up as "unavailable", not exactly sure what else is disabled/ in a non-functional state in this scenario)*

How do you turn off AdvanceTrac completely? The word has been that TCS portion of AdvanceTrac can be turned off but not the ESC.

From the manual:

Quote:
ADVANCETRAC STABILITY ENHANCEMENT SYSTEM
Your vehicle is equipped with the AdvanceTrac system. The
AdvanceTrac system provides the following stability enhancement
features for certain driving situations:
Traction control system (TCS), which functions to help avoid
drive-wheel spin and loss of traction.
Electronic stability control (ESC), which functions to help avoid skids
or lateral slides

It sure looks like you cannot turn off AdvanceTrac based on the manual.

I thought you could with a fuse pull, but it messes up other systems too, I think...

I might be wrong.

Just to clarify myself, my observation wasn't a result of an intentional scientific experiment. My car hit a deer and driver bag went out. There was no frame damage, only the hood was bent, few cracks in the bumper and headlight panel damaged (apparently that is where one of the airbag sensors is located). Anyways, somehow the advancetrac system went out of whack (according to the dealer). The bodyman himself was puzzled as to why this may have occurred as none of the advancetrac components were touched. However, after the dealer flashed some sort of computer, the advancetrac system was fully functional. Is this typical of these Fords? I don't know, I'm just stating what happened. Anyways, during the time when the advantrac wasn't working, the tranny made no shudder and I was surprised. However, after coming across this thread, I am now under the assumption that advancetrac system is the culprit. Currently, when I disable traction control, shudder is reduced but it is not fully eliminated as it was when advancetrac wasn't functional.

Maybe because advancetrac also handles the TVC and that might also be why some people have noticeable shudder?

so maybe the shuddering is just the brakes being applied as part of the TVC?

this is interesting...

This does sound very probable along with the TC system which will rear its ass over anything.

Is there any easy way to pull a fuse and disable advancetrac to test this?
