I believe you are correct Suss, I'm at work right now too (I have that same PP saved on my home computer), but, I do remember Luk being mentioned as the clutch supplier. I'm familiar with that brand, since I replaced many a clutch/pressure plate combo on the myriad of older VW's I owned over the years. My local VW garage used to supply Luk parts, since they were half decent and not quite as pricy as the Bosch or Brembo units..... LOL. Even though they were marginally cheaper, I never had an issue with any of them and they seemed to hold up well against my abuse (we're talking late teens/early 20's while in university), even with the way I drove my old MKII GTi's and Scirocco's....

My guess is that the grinding noise is actually the clutch, but I can't imagine this clutch slipping being good for the synchros or gears. That's why I'm about 1 more denied warranty from opening up my bell housing. If my synchros/gears/solenoids fail at 125k because I was driving on a bad clutch, that's something I am going to have to pay for.

EDIT: If I record myself opening this up and transmission fluid comes out because the inner seal failed and the outer seal didn't... what's step #2? Put it back together and take it to my dealer? Is my warranty already screwed? I mean, there's always the chance nothing will come out (and the grinding noises are all in my head...) but if that's the case I'll put it back together and tell my dealer nothing.

This. Getrag in this case would be the last company I would be blaming. They have been building transmissions for other companies for years as hotleadsingerguy stated, not to mention look at transmissions like the MTX-75 5-spd in the Focus that has been tried and true for years, they make quality stuff.

VW and their DSG has had similar complaints and issues for what it's worth, we aren't the only people with problems. Not an excuse, just a statement.

That being said, the DSG operates smoother than the Powershift. Whether that's design or software I'm not too sure.

Until recently, the DCTs GetRag made were of the "wet clutch" variety. The dry clutch used in our Focus is pretty new. Wet clutches can handle more torque but are more expensive to produce and maintain and are slightly less efficient. It seems they generate a lot fewer clutch chatter/gear grinding complaints,

If Ford had to do it all over again, I wonder which one they would choose?

Getrag makes the MTX-75? This is the first I've heard of it.
