I'm spoiled. This 2012 Focus is my very first new car. In general, I love it, but I'm wondering about a developing problem.
When I first got this car in March, I could barely tell the engine was even running when it was idling, it was so smooth (compared to 20-yr-old car I had just gotten rid of). But gradually, I began to notice that if I slowed down to a stop 1) after traveling at higher speeds (45-65) or 2) after stepping on the accelerator (especially if the engine had been running for 20-30 minutes) the idle was no longer so smooth. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't as nice as when I first got the car. Now, another couple months later, it seems to be progressively becoming worse. As I confessed (above) I'm was spoiled by how smooth it was initially. Should I be concerned? Am I just being "picky"

Wouldn't panic yet, with a big change in vehicles like that you'll initially only notice the big differences with fine points in what's 'normal" only becoming more noticeable after spending a lot of time with your new car.
One Motorcycle I bought new many years ago (BMW R65) exhibited a noise that only showed occasionally & that I didn't notice until I'd had the bike a while. I later learned that the noise I was worrying about was typical for all BMW bikes of that type, not just mine - and that it didn't signify any issue. Concern about anything "different" is appropriate, and I'd mention it to the service writer as something to be checked when you take it to the dealer for normal service just to get it on record. In the mean time simply keep track of how it acts in different circumstances so you can tell when something changes in the future. (My BMW noise for example correlated with changes in air temperature, and was fairly consistent once I knew the cause) Luck! and enjoy the new Focus! (Envy..) (grin) |
