Window tint with rear defroster

Hello, I was wondering about tinting the rear window on my focus. I'm planning to do it myself, all I need to know is what to do about the rear defrost. Can the tint be applied on top of the defroster a or will that cause it to bubble? Do I need to cut slits in it? Also, please keep the comments to yourself about me being a girl or about how I need to go to a pro... I've heard all that :)

you can just apply the tint over the defroster line. it will be no problem at all. Theres no need to cut it up to slits or anything like that.

also there will be no bubbles if you clean the windows and make sure there are no dust particles btw the tint and window

just have a shop do it professionally. then theres probably some warranty and they should be good enough with cleaning and making sure theres little to no bubbles

I'd say, you should go for it! Try searching for the pre-cut window tint. It'll be way much easier if you're gonna do it yourself.

Tinting is a lot more difficult than it looks. Pay someone to do it. Use high quality tint such as Llumar or 3M. Stay away from Suntek & Sungard.

Sorry, I had to :) But in all honesty, I use this one guy near me to do it; he quoted me $200 cash and always gives me a lifetime warranty. Much easier to go that route and not mess with it yourself.

If you've never done tint yourself, take it to a shop. The curved surfaces are such a P.I.T.A.

The pre-cut stuff can save some headaches if you get it started correctly. Good Luck!

Not something I'd want to do myself when you can have it done usually under $200 labor and materials with a warranty.

No problems with the defroster grids as others have stated, though.

Tinting a curved surface is difficult, but not impossible. If you're only doing the rear, then you should have a couple shots out of a roll. There are some good video's on youtube showing how to go about laying out, shrinking, and applying film to curved surfaces like that, I would take a look. You can shrink with just a blow-dryer, you don't need a heat gun (though it does speed the process up).

Just ensure that you don't knick the defroster lines with anything sharp and you should be good to go
