Heated mirror question.

I have a ti with the heated mirrors and my understanding is they come when the front or rear defog is turned on. My question is do the little "heat wave" graphic on the mirror itself light up or is there any other indication they are on?
I find it funny that in the year i've owned the car i haven't had any ice build up that need clearing.

no, they do not light up and the mirror barely becomes warm to the touch.. u usually know it's working simply cuz the ice melts off...
and, i believe this is correct, they only activate w/ the rear defroster. Not the front, windscreen defroster.

Ditto - mine don't light up and I had wondered about that as well.

Yeah, that symbol doesn't light up. It's pretty lame that there is no symbol on the defroster button to indicate that the side mirror heaters are activated by the same button.

It's clearly stated in the owners manual.

R (Rear defroster): Press to activate/deactivate the rear window
defroster. This button will also activate/deactivate the heated mirrors (if
equipped).

Exactly. You know they are on when you press the defrost button.

They work pretty quick at removing frost or snow.from the mirrors but the mirrors almost never have frost or snow on them anyways. Haha. It's the windshield that's always frosty if the car sits outside.

That is why I'd want the quickclear heated windshield although it would cost a fortune to replace if/ when it does get cracked. An electrically heated front windshield would help to eliminate the ice much faster than just waiting on the engine to start pumping out heat.

You could do the alphatherm unit for a whole lot less $ (around $100).
