Again, for those with issues, instead of complaining here, go to the NHTSA website and file a complaint!

I got my car back on Saturday. They did not do anything to the transmission except the usual visual inspection. They could not duplicate the issue (go figure)...I had also asked them to re-flash the 12b37 FSA and I was told that once it has been done, their system will not allow them to do it again. Is this true...I doubt it.
The CSM also told me that they would like to hook up a type of recorder to the car and let me drive with it. When the problem happens again, all I need to do is hit the button on the recorder to have it record any events. What to make of all of this.... |

I did. The guy said yeah we know about that and it doesn't apply. They told me they did not see any leaking. I asked how they knew that if they did not open up the transmission housing to check.

I printed out the TSB and handed it to the service guy and said "I know there aren't any visible leaks, but this is my best bet of what the issues is." They still didn't take anything apart to check the seals because the TSB only calls for an external leak so they're technically correct (the best kind of correct) - they don't have to perform the TSB. I'd like to know if they're reluctant to do warranty work because they get audited from Ford or if they don't get paid enough for warranty work. If it's the auditing, that's a sheisty system to have and if it's labor, Jesus H. Tap Dancing Christ I will put it in myself - I just don't want to fork over $800 in parts.

If an update is available, the IDS will inform the service tech and ask to proceed. There is no option to "do the update again". |

so what is this "black box" recorder. From what they told me, I have to press a button on it when the issue occurs again so it can record. It will allow for 5 recordings. They are going to call me at some point this week to come in and have it installed.
This seems so ridiculous to me. I bought this car brand new, and now I have a potentially dangerous situation, and Ford want me to be their "crash test dummy"...... |

Interesting read, I've been having a few problems with my car too. Made late 2011, when I accelerated hard in sport mode in 1st gear, then I let off for a second, then back on the gas it had disengaged the clutch, revs shot up to 5000rpm, couldn' get the car to move. I put it into park, then into D and it started to grab again and was fine for months.
The other day I was in sport mode again and gave it hard, let off, then back on and it was slipping again, I let off, back to D and it grabbed. I haven't done the Trans Firmware update yet, but maybe its time. It seems like bad programming to me, that particular code for hard acceleration, let off, hard again doesn't quite work. Also when cold the trans is slow to downshift and sluggy until it gets nice and warmed up (cold being -5c or so) Sigh, hopefully the update will cure this problem.

Does anyone know what this black box is that the dealer now wants to put in my car. It seems like another way to stall me and waste more of my time. The guy told me that it will record only when I press a button on it. How is that supposed to catch the problem when the transmission suddenly slips into neutral..
What do you think |

I imagine that it would connect to the diagnostic (OBD2) port and record data from the PCM and TCM. A good data recorder will buffer the data so if you press a button, it will store (for example) the previous 30 seconds of data (i.e. before you pressed the button) and the next 30 seconds of data (i.e. after the button was pressed). Hopefully that is the case with this recorder. |
