front strut and shock replacement?

hey there, i was just wondering if any of you guys know how much is it roughly to replace front struts and shocks?

i got a alignment today and the garage said they need to be replaced and they quoted me around $700. I'm pretty mechanical and already took the old ones off and back on to see if it was hard. so not sure if i should just buy a set and do it myself or if thats reasonable price to get them to do it ?

cheers in advance

do it yourself. 700 is ridiculous. i paid like just over 400 for my eibach sportlines and installed myself.
you should just drop your car some while youre going to do suspension. if not, the front stock suspension is cheap so no worries. simple and cheap

Was that $700 quote for just the front? You could order the SVT suspension and pay another shop labor for $700 total and end up with a greatly improved setup. Or if you are up to it, install it yourself.

svt kit from cfm

Awesome site. That kit rivals piecing it out from Rockauto. the 05-07 kit even has rears, mounts, etc.

Only thing missing is springs, which is fine by me. (depending on if you look at a kit, or strut set.)

Now to look for coupon codes.

sweet, i'll check out rock auto and the other link, but i'm thinking of just saving a lil more and getting coil overs. but one question, do i need to save the tops from the old spring/shocks or can i just buy new ones? cause i cant really be arsed buying a spring compressor etc.

cheers guys ! :)

You can reuse the strut tops, but the "bearing" should be replaced.
If you don't want to mess with a spring compressor (not a bad job), get the pre-assembled SVT struts for a few dollars more, a little over $300. YOU can do the install just fine.

Just replaced mine on a 2002 4-dr and it cost me $275 out the door. Monroe Sensa-Trac, nothing fancy but it did the trick !
