Failsafe Thermostat opinions?
I think it's Motorad that makes the Failsafe design.
I'm inclined to believe that most replacement parts are designed to fail. Even Ford had a batch of thermostats failing on the 2012 Focus'. So if a thermostat is going to fail - pray that it happens in the 'OPEN' state - especially if you are on the road far from home. Does anyone know if the normal operating temperature range of the Focus is compatible with the temperature range of the Failsafe thermostat, from experience? A little low on water and the radiator can barely keep the temp down where it should be - until the fans kick on. That's if you don't have a fan problem. I'm just doing a flush and everything is working fine but am curious as I'm replacing a three and a half year old thermostat.

Just remember like all other things the failsafe can fail just like other parts. I had a couple people bring them back claiming the failsafe feature didn't work when I was at the auto store. Of course these were dopey people who bought the stat because they routinely and regularly overheated car because they would not or were not capable of fixing what was truly wrong. The faulty logic was that the feature would save them many times.

I've seen the failsafe ones fail unsafely.

This is sort of like VOV's for AC's instead of orifice tubes. It sounds like a great idea, and if it worked- man that would be great. It just doesn't work like that every time.

I know exactly what you are talking about......................
The new 'gimmick' stuff can often work but more often it seems there is much unsaid about its' performance in other ways that if put out in general circulation might very well influence the sales of said gimmick. |
