Exclamation Cruise Control Servo

My mechanic is advising me to replace the cruise control servo in my 02 SVT. My servo is bad and is setting off the check engine light. He says because it's an SVT the part can only be purchased from the dealer for around $400.00.

Is there a big difference between the OEM part and something like this: forceRpt=true

Or something I can pick up from a local after market parts dealer? I just don't want to drop $400.00 if it can be avoided.

You guys are awesome. Any help is appreciated.

You shouldn't get a check engine light for anything cruise control related. If you have a check engine light, do the odometer test mode (use search function on this site or Google for easy examples) to see what current DTCs are present and research whatever's there. I don't think the check engine light comes on for anything that's not emmisions related or consistent misfire (and that would be flashing).

If you have a problem with your cruise control, there's a self diagnostic you can run in this thread that should point you in the right direction. I'd rewrite it more concisely if I could, but it can't be edited now. Best of luck.
