Strange goo inside wheel

I was washing my car, and noticed a ring of sticky goo on the inside of the wheel.

Thought it was wheel grease, but it has dried up and rubs off as a powder.

Any idea what this could be?

It could be brake dust or road grime. Use some purple power and a soft wheel brush to get it off

Do you park outdoors? Could be condensation on the rotor creating rust and then dripping onto the rim. When the water on the rim dries, just the rust particles remain.

Exactly. Hey, Zombies were human once, you think they only get to party one day a year? We're not talking about Santa Claus here!

If it's only one wheel then you need to investigate. Does it smell of cat's urine ? it looks like something has been on the disc ( rotor ) and gets thrown off when the wheel turns.

It didn't smell, but then, I just washed the car.

I really thought it was wheel grease, but it dried out in a few days.
Wheel grease wouldn't dry out that quickly I thought.

It is in line with the rotor so something was slung out.

Could the brake pads be the cause?

It is only one wheel.
