2000 Ford Focus ZX3 Ignition Timing Specs?

When hooked up to the diagnostic deivice. The readings show over 30 degress to even 40 degrees from top dead center when in idle (car systems are all in normal operating temperature). Now my brother and I think that this is too high for fuel-economy. I read somewhere online that this car should have an ignition timing of around 10 degrees from top dead center. But i want to get some answers from the people who might know the specifications.

Thank you

How do you plan on adjusting timing?

Base timing is near 10*BTDC. But just like an old distributor system, that is with the vacuum advance plugged. Once you plug it in you see less timing, about 18*BTDC probably.
Less fuel/air/dynamic compression means you need more lead time because the combustion process is slower.

And seeing ~40* I'd guess you're not logging the correct PID.

I run locked-out timing on some engines, 36* all the time.
I have no idea what the timing curve on the focus is.
