I followed the sync installation instructions to a "t" and the install went fine. Roughly 45 minutes. No master resets were mentioned and i didnt do one with the first sync update last year.
I guess the master reset is in case the system has a fit?

I sent an email to sync and they said they have known about it for a while and they are working on it.

Why the Master Resets? I've never done one and haven't had any problems.

The reset fixed some reported cases of strange behavior (especially after an update).

I didn't have any problems with the installation of 3.0.2 and 3.2.2, both of which I installed (had other problems with them though). 3.5.1 was a dealer-install for me since I had it done on the TSB. Didn't discover until the drive home that it was all messed up. Tried a reboot, didn't help (usually does). Did a master reset and it took care of the issues (first time a master reset ever accomplished anything positive for me personally).

Just a suggestion and since the install wipes out all of your information anyway seems like a good time to do it as opposed to finding out later you might have some issues and then have to do one after you have already re-programmed presets, re-paired phones, re-entered nav destinations, etc. Certainly not necessary but more "can't hurt" and that is the ideal time to do it. That's all.

Just rec'd a letter from Ford explaining that the (A)ccessory (P)rotocol (I)nterface (M)odule will be replaced at no charge, part and labor, for 5 years unlimited mileage.

Wonderful. As one who keeps vehicles for the duration, now I get the feeling that long term ownership of this
high tech vehicle is likely to be pricey...

I had to do a master reset because after the update (which went perfectly) when I tried to activate the voice commands - nothing happened - no chime, no recognition of voice, etc. now it all works. I'm not sold on the update. The NAV is super sluggish - like a computer that's bogged down. The voice commands are slower - as if sync has to take more time to think.

I am on V3.2.2 and Version 3 of the Navigation software and I dont have any issues.

I am wondering if this upgrade is worth the hassle.

Master resets, Fuse pulling, trips to dealership to reflash the system!

Really? this is worse than a Microsoft Upgrade!

These are not new to this upgrade. I've only done one master reset, that was precautionary after this upgrade, thanks to coper....

I've never pulled fuses or had a dealer reflash. I use the delayedreboot.cab when things start getting "clogged up". I've been through 4 versions and have done all the upgrades myself.
