intermittent electrical fault

My 1999 focus zetec 1.8 spedo intermittently stops working and the car looses power, but doesn't stall, except occasionally when I'm slowing down at a junction - any ideas what the problem may be

Hi, if you do search on the issue you will find a lot, if your odo shows only --- when this occurs, and all the other gauges are behaving normally, its most likely the VSS, that is on its way dying, it will make the car loose power/bogging, because the ECU looses info on speed.
