Getting close to my build!

so as some of you know, i bought my focus to tear it apart and turn it into my display picture. if you want more info on that check out this page. they have track slips showing that the regular focus engine will do 0-60 in 3.8 seconds. and i have a SVT with a supercharger. might go turbo after a while, I'll see how happy i am with it as is after the build. I'm hoping for a 0-60 in the low 3 sec range. still need a tune from tom. coming soon.

but before i gut the focus and build the new circuit car i'm trying to get my little problems fixed now. And I'm down to one last issue. my clutch. when i really get on it and try to make the car go sometimes, it will. sometime, the clutch will slip my foot will be all the way off the clutch and all the way on the gas and the car will just max out to 7,000 RPM. and the car will barley be moving. (i know how to drive stick, had a manual turbo'd scion i use to race and a manual WRX imprezza) i have had the car for 2 months-ish now. and i believe the clutch is bad. or to small for the JRSC? (i don't think so though)

should i replace the clutch with a stage 1 or 2? or OEM? its got a JRSC and i will be racing it at tracks from time to time. the car Does not have the BBK kit so i think it only has 5lbs of boost? which leads me to think the car is just needing a new clutch. when i get it tuned by tom with the BBK kit ill be pushing 10lbs of hot ass air so im guessing in Colorado on nice Super cold days the most HP ill see is 220ish. will a stock clutch hold that? that's only an extra 50HP. but i will be driving it hard at the track. but not around town of course. and not sure if weight makes a diffrence but the car i'm putting the engine and tranny in only weighs 1,200 pounds finished.

So I'm pretty sure it needs a new clutch. so i guess my question is what should i replace it with?

Um, what does a clutch matter?
You can't use the stock trans in the MEV; and you'll have it apart when doing the swap.

well the swap is many months away or even a year. i still drive the focus on a regular basis. untill i get a truck. then ill be ripping it apart. and i was told by the mev builder in texas that they use the stock tranny and SVT 6 speed trannys all the time. thats one of the main reasons i went with a sonic. that way it would be an easy swap. why wouldn't the factory tranny work? and the first thing the site says about doner parts is "donor parts needed, item 1. 2.0 liter DOHC Zetec engine and 5 speed manual transmission" and many other parts of course. (check out the link in my original post for the donor parts listed. it claims a factory focus tranny) not sure why you think this tranny wont work? they helped me find the car. so that would piss me off a bit if they didnt fill me in on that correctly. i bought this car for its engine and 6 speed tranny.

and yes i will be taking it apart for the swap of course but as you can see in the pictures i wont need to remove the tranny for the the engine swap. so might as well replace the clutch now and get it over with. my main question was, What type of clutch should i replace the current one with. will a simple factory clutch do the job? or should i do a step up?

And i guess i now have a new question. Is this a regular focus transmission? if not i have a call to make to the mev dealer.

Guess I should have looked more, oops. I just assumed the MEV was like the Super 7, front engine rear drive. Didn't realize the MEV was rear engine. Now I want one, LOL.

So being that's the case. Ya, replace the clutch.
From what I've read/heard the Southbend products are pretty reliable.
I'd go for a kit with a heavier pressure plate and good non-ceramic friction disc --> http://www.dxdracingclutches.com/html/focus.html

ok good deal... i was worried! that would have sucked. And the kit starts at $8,000! not a bad price for a race car. but you have to treat it like a bike. nice days only car. permanent convertible. that's why i'm waiting until i can buy a third car. after the clutch ill just be waiting to get a new daily driver

soo....are you using the mtx75 or the getrag??

Either way, id recommend light fly and stg1 clutch. Seeing as youll have much less vehicle mass to deal with, youll probably enjoy the light fly.
