ODD Getrag Issue - Now it works.
So... I think I have a bad differential carrier bearing. (Maybe I'll luck out and the CV pot will be ruined. But, that's for another thread.)
I replaced the Getrag in my SVT last winter because the original had gotten stuck in gear. The most likely explanation was a broken shift fork. I just could not shift the thing out of sixth - not with the gearshift in the car and not by hand at the transmission. The lever would NOT budge. After pulling it (still no movement of the lever), I put it in the garage planning to take it apart and figure out what was wrong with it. This all happened as I was moving, so I never got around to opening it up.
Today, after listening to my diff make all kinds of marbles in a blender noise, I got to wondering if the best fix would be to fix the original box using a shift fork (assuming that was the issue) from the new one. So, I went into the garage and pulled the old box out from under a table by the shift lever.
Click. Move. WTF??? The shift lever now moves. It's got three clicks with the second lever out and three with it in. (No idea how to get reverse.) What's going on? I'm wondering if something inside the box came loose, blocking the forks, but is now out of the way since the box is on its back instead of on its side. I have no idea what to look for, though. Any ideas?
Anyone know what size torx I need for the transmission bolts?
Thanks.
